In 2014 rhino poaching in Africa was out of control. The numbers of rhinos poached grew by an alarming rate every year. The San Diego Zoo Safari Park was home to Nola, one of seven northern white rhinos left on the planet at the time, and she was under end-of-life care. We knew we needed to act. We needed a viral campaign to raise awareness of Nola’s plight. Just then, a simple yet bold idea came to mind.
With a striking call to action and a hashtag, we gained national attention. All it took was a sharpie and a phone to participate.
